Environmentally sustainable site accommodation

Can your Site Accommodation be environmentally sustainable and deliver wellbeing?

Many construction workers will recall working in site offices in the past which were sauna-like in summer, freezing cold in winter, poorly lit, noisy through the flimsy walls and with toilets that doubled as store cupboards.

Modular site accommodation has come a long way and the CDM regulations ensure welfare facilities are considered but with net zero construction on the horizon - which requires addressing emissions generated as part of the construction activities themselves - further improvements to site set ups can be made to ensure your sites are more sustainable across the board.

Portable cabins have always been reusable, servicing multiple projects over a lifetime, but now a number of sustainability conscious options can include:

-       Cabins made from recycled materials.

-       Enhanced durability / lifespan, meaning even more re-use.

-       Energy performance certificates reward well insulated fabric and double-glazing, resulting in a more comfortable working or resting space.

-       Renewable energy from wind and / or solar or solar-hybrid generators.

-       Power efficient heating and lighting, often with less noise.

-       Battery storage to reduce the use of mains-electric or diesel generators and help with low power, demand-peaks, and making the most of on-site generated energy.

-       For longer duration projects, Combined Heat Power units and Air Source Heat Pumps can provide energy efficient heating and hot water

-       If showering facilities are required, waste water heat recovery can also be considered.

-       Smart tech including automatic controls, timers and thermostats can turn off heating, lighting and appliances when not in use.

-       Energy efficient equipment such as printers, fridges, monitors.

Evenlode Roadside can help you to ensure that some or all of these options become the norm on your next project.

We know that proving your sustainability credentials is important to you especially as the drive for in-use energy savings grows through this year and beyond, whilst providing an attractive wellbeing offer to your workers as they take pride in developing net zero infrastructure for the future.
